Position Description of the Senior Pastor

 

The primary job of the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church is to surrender fully to the ministry of the Word and prayer, seeking to walk uprightly before the Lord in one’s personal life while seeking the mind of God on behalf of the congregation. In all ways, the pastor shall endeavor to lead and teach the congregation according to the precepts of Holy Scripture, holding true to the church’s Statement of Faith, Statement of Nature and Mission, Constitution, Bylaws and Governing Policies, while honoring its history and preparing for its future.

Much of the Senior Pastor’s job description involves one’s spiritual life, character, demeanor, education and training, with an attitude always representing Christ and the Church. This takes constant effort through, prayer, scriptural study, professional growth and education, training and personal fellowship with the congregation. The job of the senior pastor is to shepherd the spiritual health of the Body of Christ, maintaining a healthy spiritual balance in all areas of church life.

The Senior pastor shall:

  • Spend quality time before the Lord in prayer seeking His counsel.
  • Direct the preaching ministry of the Church.
  • Spend adequate time in study preparing him for teaching and preaching the Word of the Lord to the congregation.
  • Cast vision to the congregation and communicate regularly its mission.
  • To provide leadership to the staff and all volunteer leaders.
  • Supervise all staff, meeting regularly and as necessary with all staff and employees.
  • Maintain a good relationship with the Governance Board and keep them abreast of all that is happening at the church through a monthly meeting.
  • Oversee congregational care and outreach.
